SPRING HAS PASSED

May 18, 1931

01

AMEHARETE TSUYUMOSHITODONO TAKAMURANO SHITAKAGEAOKU KOKENOHANASAKU

The rains clears,

In the shadow of

The dripping wet

Bamboo trees appear

Color on the moss.

02

AOAOSHI BASYONOHIROHANI AOGAERU SAYURUGIMOSEDE AMENINIREORI

On the fresh

Wide leaves of the

Banana tree, the

Green frog remains

Steady in the rain.

03

SAMIDARENO HARURUTOMIREBA OTIKATANI KUMONOMUNENAMI USURANIJIMIYU

As I see that the

Early summer rain has

Cleared, in the distance

There appears a rainbow

With the thunderhead.

04

SHIGERIAU KONOSHITAYAMINI HONOSHIROKU YAMAYURINOHANA IKUTUKAUKERU

Several mountain lilies

Float faintly showing

White in the darkness

Under the trees

Of the thick forest.

05

TAUEUTA NODOKANIKIKOE NONOIENO DOKOMOHITOKENO MIENUMAHIRUMA

The sounds of rice

Planting peacefully float

By; no persons are to be seen

In any of the farmhouses

During the day.

06

YUSARITE AOTAWOWATARU KAZESUZUSHI YUKUTENOYAMIWO HOTARUKASUMENU

Evening falls

Cool is the breeze that

Passes over the rice paddies,

The darkened destination is

Dimly lit by the fireflies.

07

SHINRYOKUNO KINOKAWONOSETE KYOUKAESHI KOROMONOSODEWO KAZEHUKISUGURU

The breeze passes through the

Sleeves of my clothes, newly changed

Today for the summer season,

Carrying the fragrance of

The fresh leaves of the trees.

08

IKENOMONI UTSURUMATSUKAGE KUROGUROSHI SHINGETSUNOKAGE KASOKEKUMOMIYU

On the surface of the pond,

The reflection of the pine

Makes a dark impression.

The light of the new moon

Begins to appear.

09

KAZEKAORI AOBAHIKARERU HATSUNATSUNO NIWANIORITATEBA MUNENIHIROGINU

My breast is expansive

As descends into the

Early summer garden

The light from the fresh foliage

And the fragrance of the breeze.

10

SAKUHANAMO HAYAMINAZUKITO NARISHIKYOU IKENOHENISAKU KAKITSUBATABANA

Flowers are blooming and

It’s already the Six Month

Today the irises

Bloom around the

Banks of the pond.

11

YUMAKETE HAKKEIENNO TAKADAIYU NAGAMURUUMINI ISARIBIMATATAKU

The night deepens and

From the heights of

Eight-View Park

The light of the fishermen

Are again lit as I gaze at sea.

12

TASOGARENO NIWAMURASAKINO ASAGAONO TSUBOMIMIIDETE KOKOROTANOSHIMO

Restfully pleasing,

In the twilight

Garden, buds

Peek out of the

Purple morning glories.

13

TANOIENO NOKINOUMENOMI AMENINURE AOAOSHIMOYO FUTOAOGUMENI

Smelling freshness

the

Eyes look upward, the

Fruit on the branches

Of the plum tree under the

Eves of the farm house are wet.
